How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I have been in the mortgage industry for 17 years and love what I do. I value strong communication between my clients, the realtors and attorneys during a purchase transaction so that we get to the closing efficiently and as seamless as possible. There is nothing like helping someone obtain their vacation home or helping them become a real estate investor to enhance their future for themselves and their families.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
I ask questions, lots of questions! By having a great understanding of not only plans and goals current day, but also what their 5, 10yr plans are, I can suggest the best loan program to fit their needs. 30yr fixed mortgages are great, but not the best program for everyone. I also make sure they understand the reasoning on why I feel one loan could be better for them than another so they can make an educated decision for themselves and their families.
Tell us about a mortgage product that consumers may not be aware of?
Lender paid mortgage insurance is a product I feel people do not take advantage of enough. It is a product where the consumer can put less than 20% down and not have to pay the monthly mortgage insurance, as the lender will cover the fee with just a slight increase in the rate. If the consumer does not plan on staying in the home long term, this is the route to go as their monthly payment will be less than the traditional borrower paid MI. I also have products available for Coop's and non-warrantable condos which can be hard to find nationwide.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
The amount of documentation we need today, is far more than even a few years ago and borrowers get frustrated by that. Clients will help the underwriting process and essentially themselves by providing all the documentation requested in its entirety. The more documentation supplied upfront, the less information the underwriter will be missing when going through the file, which in turn means we have less conditions to clear up. Secondly, I take pride in providing responsive and timely communication. When the borrower reciprocates that philosophy we end up being clear to close weeks in advance and everyone is happy.
What can borrowers do to ensure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
Borrower's will help the underwriting process by providing all the documentation requested in its entirety. The more paper supplied upfront, the less information the underwriter will be missing when going through the file. Secondly, as I mentioned I take pride in providing responsive and timely communication. When the borrower reciprocates that philosophy we end up being clear to close weeks in advance and everyone is happy.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
I receive the most satisfaction from my job when I truly improve the lives of my clients by helping them move into their dream home or either saving them money per month in a refinance, which in turn relieves stress or simply allows them more cash flow to spend with and/or on their families.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
I volunteer quite a bit as I feel it is important to give back. Each month I am at Ronald McDonald House by Lurie's Children's Hospital, Serving lunch at Sara's Circle (local shelter for women), and am on 2 committee's for Habitat for Humanity. Secondly, I love to travel when I can steal the time. The most amazing place I have been to so far in the world is Africa on a safari and I am looking forward to visiting Greece.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I enjoy the sun in my face and the wind in my hair riding my Harley! (The mortgage industry, isn't the only place I keep up with the men in. lol)
