How long have you been in the mortgage business? What awards have you won?
I have been in the mortgage business for over 15 years now and witnessed many substantial changes to the industry. Always being able to adjust and adapt quickly to new regulations and the changing landscape of mortgage lending is one of my key strengths. I’ve been voted a Los Angeles Five Star Mortgage Professional the last 3 years in Los Angeles Magazine.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
My advice to first time homebuyers is to be wary of any financial scams that prey on home buyers, especially involving wire fraud. Beware of any emails asking to wire funds and never wire anything until you have verified the source completely. Also, do your best not to make any significant changes during the loan process that could jeopardize your transaction. Do your best to not transfer or deposit large sums of money from unverified sources and to not apply for or co-sign any new debt without consulting your mortgage loan officer first.
Tell us about a mortgage product that consumers may not be aware of?
Down payment assistance programs, such as Guaranteed Rate’s Give 2 You program, which provides a 2% Grant (capped at $7,500) with a 3% borrower down payment. Renovation loan products designed to finance the repair or remodel of a home with one mortgage. Unison HomeBuyer programs, which contribute to buyer’s down payment to increase qualifications. Low down payment options for jumbo loans with options for 5% to 10% Down Payment without private mortgage insurance (PMI). Interest-only loans.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
All the documentation involved. I like to have a comprehensive initial conversation with all my clients to figure out which documents are necessary. I help facilitate obtaining those documents in the most convenient and secure way possible. I gather as much information as possible upfront to insure a smooth loan process and to be able to tackle any issues in the beginning to avoid any surprises or delays at the end.
Summary of where you grew up: family, affiliations, college, high school, etc.
I was born in Cleveland, Ohio and my family moved shortly after to sunny South Florida where I grew up in West Palm Beach. I came to Los Angeles in 1995 to go to USC (Go Trojans!) and have been here ever since.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
My sense of humor.
