Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
A typical customer for me, for the most part is usually a first time homebuyer. I will also have that customer that has bought and gone through the process of purchasing a home. Most frequent questions I typically get from customers are: What are your rates? What are your closing costs? What program is best for me? Now, everyone has a different story and factors that will play a role what those outcomes are to the those questions. My job is to help you, the customer, break down those questions and find the answers that will best suit the customer.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
First, I like to get to know the customer. It allows me to have a better understanding and what needs or wants they may have. I want my customer to be comfortable because most of time buying a home is the biggest purchase of ones life. Everyone is at a different level of experience. Then I like to learn what their goals are in finding a home. It may be a number they want their monthly payment to be at, or how much they can afford given their credit and income. Then the customer and I will gather the information needed to fill out an application. Once that is done, depending on the story that is told from the application we can now look into a loan that will best bit that customer. Some loans may not fit all customers, so getting them into the right one for them is key.
What resources could you recommend that borrowers use to learn more about the mortgage process and how to ensure a successful home closing?
There is a ton of information out there, especially with the internet. I recommend speaking with family and friends that have been through the process already. Also, it never hurts to call someone like myself to ask questions. We aren't just here to sell and originate loans, we are here to help and educate the customer.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
The most satisfying thing for me is seeing that smile of my customer at the closing table and they get handed the keys to their new home. It is very gratifying and I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to help those customers succeed in their financial goals of homeownership.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I am terrified of spiders. I also had a few teeth knocked out and broken in my days of playing hockey.
