Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
I don’t look at any customer as “typical.” Each customer has unique goals whether they are a first-time home buyer or a move up buyer, looking to renovate, build or downsize, needing an in-law, buying as an investment or looking to refinance to lower their payments, reduce their term or consolidate debt. Everyone has unique goals, and no one has the same background or experience. By asking the right questions, my objective is to determine their specific needs and tailor the process to ensure goals, needs and questions are all met.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
I’m all about education. As with anything in life, there are many options. My goal is to find the options that best work for a customer and educate them, so they are equipped to make the best decisions. Oftentimes there are multiple choices, and each has its pros and cons. The mortgage process should not be a mystery, and the customer should enter into it with their eyes wide open. An educated borrower is the best type of borrower
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
1. It’s a long, difficult process.
2. It requires a lot of cash up front.
3. I’ll buy a house next year. No, no and no. Even if you plan on “buying next year,” wouldn’t you like to know what you can do today, so you can get the best possible terms when you are ready? Just call, text, email or apply online…I’m here to help!
What resources could you recommend that borrowers use to learn more about the mortgage process and how to ensure a successful home closing?
There’s a lot of great information online, but there is also a lot of misinformation; it’s almost impossible to weed through all the noise. The best information to ensure a successful closing comes from your team. For a purchase, it starts with a great Realtor who can quarterback the transaction and help you every step of the way. The loan officer, settlement agent, home inspector, insurance provider - these are the people you should be able to lean into when you have questions. Google is great, but when financing a home, get a referral and lean on your team.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
This is an easy one. Closing day for my buyers! The smiles. Hearing a buyer’s plans and even better hearing kids tell you what color they want to paint their walls or where their dog is going to sleep. You can’t beat the feeling you get knowing you were a part of that.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
I work hard, but I play hard…and my friends and family keep me busy – the people in my world are everything! I love boating, skiing, scuba diving and flying small planes…the list goes on. I’m always up for an adventure, so if I haven’t done it yet, I’m willing to try. Life is too short to not have fun!
