Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
Customers we work with want to make sure they are getting the best value on a mortgage product which fits all of their financial and home ownership needs. Our team strives to deliver low rates, low fees and a great experience to every customer.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
You do not have to have to get a mortgage for the total amount you are approved for. Ultimately you must be comfortable with your financial obligations as you have to make the payments (not the loan officer or underwriter). It is okay to get a smaller/less expensive house than you can actually afford.
How has the mortgage industry changed since you started, and what would you expect in the future?
A lot has changed in the mortgage industry since the housing / mortgage collapse in 2008-09 resulting in a much more regulated industry designed to protect the consumer. Unfortunately many of the regulations have made home financing more tedious & restrictive for many potential borrowers. The changes overall are in good spirit and will continue to reward financially responsible consumers who want to experience the American Dream of Home Ownership.
What 2 or 3 mobile apps would you recommend for home buyers or house hunters, and why? What Smart Apps do you recommend your customers use for the house hunting process?
I recommend HomeTraq suite of services to empower home buyers and sellers with a simple, transparent experience. I also recommend Home Scouting for home shoppers which provides 100% of homes for sale on the local MLS with no obligation.
Are you active in any local associations or community groups, and at what level? What goals and/or success have you helped these groups achieve?
I am a member and have served on the Homers for the Homeless & Emerging Technology committees for the Mortgage Bankers Association of St. Louis http://mbastl.com/ as well as a member and have served on the Education and Affiliates committee for the St. Louis Association of Realtors. http://stlrealtors.com/
Summary of where you grew up: family, affiliations, college, high school, etc.
I grew up in the small community of Woodlawn, Illinois where my senior high school class consisted of 34 graduates. After college I moved 1 hour west to St. Louis and am proud to call New Town of St. Charles home now for over 10 years. My wife, son and I love our neighborhood and enjoy nights and weekends with friends and neighbors at the community’s lakes, amphitheater and restaurants. Our grocery store, mail center, community pool and church are all within walking distance from our house.
In my spare time I enjoy playing guitar, camping, hunting and have been a member of the same fantasy baseball league for over 20 years with some childhood friends. I am a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals & St. Louis Blues fan. My childhood home was just a short drive from the St. Louis area, so I always viewed myself as a St. Louisan until I actually moved to St. Louis and everyone started asking me what High School I attended.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
My childhood was spent in rural Southern Illinois, where my family operated a game bird ranch raising and selling pheasants, chickens and quails. I spent my evenings, weekends and summer breaks helping my father, brother and grandfather build bird pens, collect eggs, feed and take care of the birds. It wasn’t glamorous, but it was definitely a great lesson in entrepreneurship and the challenges and opportunities a family goes through in starting and maintaining a small business.
