Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
My typical customer is someone buying a distressed property or planning a big remodel of their home. The most common question I get is how long will it take to close my loan? Can I do some of the remodeling work myself?
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
I specialize in renovation lending, so the best home may not look like it at first. I help my customers find resources to help them find that diamond in the rough and realize it's potential.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
Well with renovation loans people think they are just too hard and take too long. Really the vast majority of renovation loans are for relatively simple repairs or upgrades. If the customer can find a good contract and find a loan officer who specializes in this type of lending the loan process is not lengthy or difficult.
What resources could you recommend that borrowers use to learn more about the mortgage process and how to ensure a successful home closing?
I encourage my customers to call me whenever they have a question or concern. I also ask them to do some research on line about renovation loans. Remodeling a home can be a stressful process. The best thing a customer can do when remodeling a home is to work with people who specialize in renovation lending. Spend some time checking our the contractor and loan officer. These relationships are critical to the success of the project.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
I'm a problem solver. Most of the problems I solve are around the condition of the property. I love seeing my customers take a fixer upper and make it into their dream home. I love driving around my community and seeing all the homes that I had a hand in repairing or remodeling. I'm helping to improve my community one home at a time.
