How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I have been in the mortgage business for 8 years. Prior to mortgages, I was in the finance and insurance industry for 13 years. I can think of no better career than helping people with their home buying and refinancing needs.
Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
There really is no such thing as a “typical” customer. Everyone has different wants, needs and goals. It’s my job to not only ask what those are, but, more importantly, to understand why they are important to my customer. Throughout the mortgage process, I take my time to answer each question that comes up in a clear and uncomplicated manner.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
? I think the most important step is to listen! I want to know what the customer wants to accomplish. Then we can discuss their current and long term financial goals, their budget, and how long they believe that they will hold on to the property. From there, we mutually decide what loan product, payment and term would best fit their specific needs.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
? The best advice I can give is to ask questions! One of the biggest fears a first-time home buyer has is that their questions may not be the right one to ask or that they have asked too many questions already. You can never ask too many questions! The home buying process can be an incredibly frustrating experience for anyone if they do not feel 100% comfortable. As a first-time home buyer, you have never trekked through the loan process. I have! So, keep those questions coming!
Tell us about a mortgage product that consumers may not be aware of?
The digital mortgage has revolutionized the industry and the mortgage process. I am proud to work for the only retail mortgage lender in the Country with this technology. There seems to be a misconception that obtaining a mortgage is difficult or the process of finding the best product or rate is an "obstacle course". My team provides a transparent process, with incredible technology that ensures your mortgage will be handled with ease.
What can borrowers do to ensure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
Be responsive. When your loan officer or their fulfillment staff requests additional documentation, provide those documents quickly. Help us keep the file moving forward and avoid a slowdown of your file in underwriting. We all want the same goal – to close your loan on time and to make your loan process a smooth and enjoyable one!
Summary of where you grew up: family, affiliations, college, high school, etc.
I grew up in Galesburg, Illinois and moved to Peoria when I was 12. I went to AOL/Spalding for high school, then obtained my Bachelors of Science at the University of Notre Dame. I also have an MBA in Marketing from the University of Phoenix. I live in Dunlap, Illinois with my beautiful wife, and children.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
The best compliment I can receive is a referral from one of my clients! I pride myself in providing the highest level of customer service to each of my customers. I take pride in my honesty and integrity, creating customers for life!
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
With young children at home, my life is filled with running around to sporting events, music lessons and extra-curricular activities! On Saturdays in the fall, you can find me cheering on my Fighting Irish! I love college football and cheer for all things Notre Dame!
