Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
My typical client is an educated, first time homebuyer who is not sure what they need to know for their home purchase. The main questions I get are “How does the process go to ensure things go smoothly and I have the information to make the right decisions?”, “How much should I be spending on my monthly payment?” “What is PMI (private mortgage insurance)?”, “How much should I put down on my first home purchase” and “What is my payment going to be?” My team is here to answer those questions proactively and ensure things go smoothly during the biggest purchase of a client’s life.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
I have a very detailed discussion with my clients at an initial call to discuss their timeline, goals, questions and cover important overview questions. This is crucial to getting a roadmap for the client’s specific situation and ensure they are informed participants throughout the process. I want to explain to them how my team will handle their purchase with the highest level of service during pre-approval, once they find their dream home and after they go under contract until closing. We utilize a “team approach” to home lending so that they have someone there to answer their questions from start to finish and make sure their needs are met. I will cover an estimate of closing costs and monthly payment in detail so that they are aware of the 3rd party costs and can budget accordingly.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
? That it is stressful, time consuming and difficult. That may be the case with a big bank or online lender, but our digital mortgage application leverages technology, keeps clients up to date and efficiently moves the loan through the process to ensure an on-time closing.
What resources could you recommend that borrowers use to learn more about the mortgage process and how to ensure a successful home closing?
Contact a home loan expert like myself as early as possible in the process. Most clients don’t know where to start and there are good resources online. But a client’s situation is specific to them and without planning, there are a lot of pitfalls and questions clients don’t even know to ask. This is the biggest purchase of a client’s life and the more a client knows about their particular situation with underwriting and budgeting, the better they will be to make the right decisions for their purchase.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
The closing is always the most satisfying portion of my job!! But I would say that the best feeling I get from my job is reading reviews on social media, Yelp and Zillow that let me know they were very well informed and guided during a home purchase that they started out with knowledge about. A good example of this would be from a recent review online that said “Chris is personable and very informative. He was readily available to answer questions, provide insight, and outline next steps. He made sure we were all on the same page each step of the way. His team was also very helpful. The entire team seemed to work around the clock whether it be late at night, during the weekend, and even during holidays. "
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
Hanging with my 3 kids and amazing wife (mostly at a pool). Lifting weights and golfing.
