What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
The initial phone interview is most important for uncovering where people are in their lives and where this home loan will fit into that framework. I like to take some extra time to get to know my clients during this call. No two clients are the same. By asking specific questions about their financial situation and goals, I can show them loan options that are tailored for their unique needs.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
Misconception #1) You need a large down payment to purchase a home. The truth is that there are many low down payment options out there, even if you’ve owned a home in the past. We are also able to help your real estate agent structure your offer (when the time comes) to have the sellers help pay your closing costs.
Misconception #2) Millennials can’t buy a home because of their “crushing” student loan debt. This could not be further from the truth. I have a lot of clients who are millennials, many of whom do have student loan debt, and we help them purchase homes. Often with a minimal down payment and for less per month than they were paying in rent.
Misconception #3) Getting a mortgage is so complicated. Truth – we’ve made it easy and transparent. Through our digital mortgage, you’ll have access to your account 24/7. We also work to fit your schedule. You can call, text, or email us and get a response promptly.
What resources could you recommend that borrowers use to learn more about the mortgage process and how to ensure a successful home closing?
The best resource that borrowers can use to learn more about the mortgage process is to get with a trusted mortgage expert early before you go searching for a home. It’s also important for potential buyers to have an idea on how much they can afford in terms of monthly payment, and how much they’re prepared to contribute to a down payment. Ask lots of questions, and make sure you communicate any concerns or potential hiccups to your lender, so everyone is on the same page.
