What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
1. Down payment. Many people think they need to wait until they have 20% saved up for a down payment and that mortgage insurance is the devil. This is not the case! There are options available where a down payment is comparable to first/last/security/broker fee of a rental.
2. You should wait to buy until you buy your forever home. With low down payment options and rising rental costs, buying a home could make sense sooner than you think. It's a great opportunity to build equity and have a place to call your own.
3. Multi-family homes are out of reach. While multi-family homes are usually more expensive than single-family homes, we can use expected rental income to help qualify you for the higher amount. After factoring in rental income, a multi-family mortgage could be cheaper than a single-family.
What resources could you recommend that borrowers use to learn more about the mortgage process and how to ensure a successful home closing?
I know for me personally, I need to talk to someone and bounce questions off of them to really understand something. Feel free to give me a call and use me as a resource whether you are a few weeks or a few years from buying a home.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
What I love most about being a loan officer is hearing people's goals and dreams and helping them achieve it. Whether it's getting them into their dream home or saving them some money on a refinance, I'm blessed to have a job where I can genuinely help people.
Savings, if any, vary based on consumer’s credit profile, interest rate availability, and other factors. Contact Guaranteed Rate, Inc. for current rates. Restrictions apply.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
Golf, golf, and golf. It would almost feel dishonest for me to write anything else. When I'm not performing my loan officer duties you can catch me on the course, watching the Tour, looking at satellite images of courses, or doodling golf holes in my notebook. Let me know if you ever want to hit the links!
