Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
My typical customers are Realtors, they are helping their clients work through the home buying process and financing is an important step in achieving their goals. They like to know what types of products I can offer their clients and how easy is it for a buyer to get a pre-approval. First time home buyers are another facet of my business, they ask for guidance on where to start the home buying process and are looking for help on what they can afford.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
I first start by asking if they have ever owned a home and how familiar they are with the process. I ask them what their plan is and what they are looking for in a lender. Some customers would like a lot of guidance, while others may not need as much guidance. Asking questions are important but being a good listener is key.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
Many people feel they need 20% down to buy a home, there are many programs available that offer little or no money down. Credit scores are an important part of the application, assuming that you don't qualify without perfect credit is a misconception. Many customers are unaware of the closing costs necessary to purchase a home and what items need to be done in order to achieve their goals.
What resources could you recommend that borrowers use to learn more about the mortgage process and how to ensure a successful home closing?
As a past Realtor, I always recommend choosing a lender and a Realtor that you are comfortable with and trust. It can be a stressful process so you need knowledgeable people on your team that work well together and are looking out for your best interests. They will be your best resource to help make the process smooth and stress free.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
Attending the closing is my favorite part of the home buying process. Seeing the excitement and anticipation when they receive their keys- the joy is infectious and knowing I was able to help them achieve that goal is the best feeling.
