How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I have been in the mortgage business 22 years. I was looking for a job where I would be able to talk to many different people and make a positive impact on their lives. By helping someone improve their financial position through refinancing or purchasing a home, it is life changing for them and I am happy to be a part of it .
Tell us about a specific challenging borrowing situation and how you got the mortgage closed and funded.
About 15 years ago I was doing a refinance for a customer that was on the edge of being foreclosed upon and losing her house . She was divorced with three children and all she wanted to do was keep the house for them so they had a stable environment to live. I negotiated with her current lender to hold off foreclosure proceeding until the end of the month. If I didn't get the loan closed by then, her existing lender was going to take the house. There were many issues with the loan, but after appealing it to the senior vice president of underwriting, I was able to get it approved. When I called the client to let her know she was approved, she told me she was in an ambulance on her way to the hospital because she had a nervous breakdown. In order for her to keep her house we had to close the loan the next day. Seeing she was not out of the hospital, I had only one choice, close the loan at the hospital. We closed the loan the next day and she ended up keeping her home.
What can borrowers do to ensure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
To ensure a smooth mortgage underwriting process, borrowers should get all the info that is requested from them as quickly as possible to the lender and keep the lines of communication open through the process by responding to e-mails, and phone calls in a timely fashion.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
In my spare time I enjoy being outside spending time with my son and daughter going swimming, boating, hiking, and riding bikes.
