Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
I have a variety of clients that range from first time home buyers, move up buyers, investors, and those doing Reverse Mortgage retirement planning. The clients have a variety of needs and wishes with all sorts of questions. I believe all questions are valid and the only bad question is the one not asked.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
When I start working with a potential mortgage client, first and foremost I try to find out what their wishes and needs are so I can address the issues that are important to them. Sometimes, my client is unsure what they want or need so we set off on a course of discovery. Throughout the process, I do my best to explain everything along the way so there are no surprises. I try to be there for them every step of the way. I understand that a home purchase or refinance is one of the most daunting and important events is many client's lives.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
A lot of times, people are confused or have misconceptions of how to qualify for a home loan. I talked to many people who were sure they wouldn't qualify and did and others that were sure they would and didn't. The best advise I have is to talk to a mortgage profession early on in the home hunting and find out. Another confusing part of qualifying for a mortgage is how their credit affects things. It is better to have some credit paid on time rather than no credit. The reason for this is the underwriter cannot determine a person's payment ability or willingness. Lastly, it is better to find out where one stands so the home buying process can be more joyful and if things need work, finding out what path they can embark on to put them in better standing to buy that home to dream in.
What resources could you recommend that borrowers use to learn more about the mortgage process and how to ensure a successful home closing?
I think the best resource for a buyer is finding the right mortgage professional to help them along the way. To find the right mortgage professional, I recommend a person ask for a referral from their real estate agent, their attorney, CPA or other trusted adviser.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
I find great joy to be part of someone successfully buying their dream home or a home they can dream in. One of the most rewarding experiences is helping some secure their retirement safety with a Reverse Mortgage. The joy and relief they experience at the close is very gratifying.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
I love to work with local Girl Scouts in helping them learn and grow. I get to see life through much younger eyes and have fun and experience their adventures with them. I am involved in the Julian Chamber of Commerce and involved with the merchants.
