How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I have been in the mortgage business for 14 years. After graduating from Benedictine University with a degree in political science, I worked in a couple other arenas before gravitating towards the business of finance. The mortgage business was a natural fit almost immediately. I liked the idea of helping people navigate such an important financial decision in their lives. I developed relationships with Realtors, attorneys and financial planners and those relationships have been the cornerstone of my business. I view my job as that of a trusted financial adviser.
How has the mortgage industry changed since you started, and what would you expect in the future?
When I started in the mortgage business it was sort of the Wild West. There were a lot of people working as loan officers that didn’t have experience and probably shouldn’t have been in the business. With the regulations and guidelines currently in place, the customer is much more served and the overall mortgage experience is much more professional.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
I think customers find the quantity of documentation that they have to gather and navigate somewhat cumbersome. We mitigate that by asking them to put us in touch with accountants, who often times have all of their required documents and as long as we have the customer’s permission, they will work with us to provide everything we need.
Are you active in any local associations or community groups, and at what level? What goals and/or success have you helped these groups achieve?
I sit on the Board of Directors of Catholic Charities, an organization that is near and dear to my heart. I also am very involved in the community of Elmhurst and I am excited to be opening a new Guaranteed Rate branch there in March.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I’m a bit of an adventure or thrill seeker. I have numerous (successful) skydiving jumps, I have raced cars, swum with sharks and several other really fun life adventures.
