Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
My typical client is a high-level executive professional, doctor or attorney searching for an upper brackets home. I get amazing joy, however, in working with first-time homebuyers and watching in awe when handed the keys to their first home and the smile that burst upon their faces.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
I listen, listen, listen to their goals, desires and ambitions and then I listen, listen, listen some more! I typically initially spend approximately two hours with borrowers in an effort to understand their goals better.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
1. It must be tedious
2. It must be time-consuming
3. It must be intrusive
What resources could you recommend that borrowers use to learn more about the mortgage process and how to ensure a successful home closing?
There is a huge array of information available for all borrowers, especially since the advent of the internet. I encourage all borrowers to utilize, not exhaust the internet, but with one notice of caution: make sure that the information you are using to educate yourselves pertains to your individual situation. Don't make the mistake of using generic information if it doesn't pertain to your specific situation. Also, never minimize the referral advice of friends--people who have been through the process before, and listen intently to both the positive and negative words of wisdom.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
The sheer joy and smiles on my borrowers' faces when a loan closes and the appreciation they show me for a job well done.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
I am a sports nut, whether it be participating or spectating. I am the youngest of four boys, so sports has always been an integral part of my life.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I have a very dry sense of humor that seems to endear me to people because it adds some levity to the loan process and relieves borrower stress.
