What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
I like to take a 15-20 minute conversation with them and understand what the borrower’s goals are and what is most important to them. If they are first time home-buyers, I explain to them the overall process and what they should expect during this journey. Everyone’s situation is unique and some borrower’s situations are easier or more difficult than others. If there is a will, there will always be a way to make it happen!
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
Don’t be afraid to incur mortgage insurance and gift money is perfectly acceptable. From a fresh perspective, mortgage insurance is the vehicle that will allow you to unlock your first home earlier in life. Saving for a 20% down payment is difficult for many millennials because of student debt and rising home prices. Gift money is nothing to be ashamed of and many people receive gift money from close relatives to make home ownership possible.
What can borrowers do to ensure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
Honesty is always the best policy and working together is key! Knowing the intricacies of your financial history are much easier and less costly to navigate during the initial application. Secondly, working together to always be available to provide documentation or signatures during the entire process will help accelerate the timetable!

Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I’ve jumped five times out of a C-130 at 2000 ft, fast roped out of a CH-53 helicopter, earned the Navy SCUBA bubble, and fired an AT-4 anti-tank round in infantry training. Additionally, I love watching Midshipmen, Trojan (my wife is a graduate), and Irish college football!
