Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
First time home buyers. Most first time home buyers' do not know how much is need for down payments, work history, or that closing costs can add up... FAST. This is why it's important to consult with a lender before home shopping to make sure you are well prepared to purchase.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
1) Go over their finances and discuss how to find your "Purchasing Power" (how much home you can afford).
2) Discuss how long you want to live in the home, current loan programs that adhere to that timeline, and the best strategy/loan program that suits this scenario.
3) I ALWAYS go over closing costs. A lot of first time buyers have no idea that closing costs can get quite expensive and there are ways to cut these costs down through creative loan structuring, as well as, giving them leverage when submitting an offer on a property so that it stands out more to sellers.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
1) You need 20% down payment
2) You need perfect credit
3) Applying is hard
What resources could you recommend that borrowers use to learn more about the mortgage process and how to ensure a successful home closing?
First time buyers classes, credit repair, and getting with a realtor and lender that know what they are doing! Just call me its easier than googling.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
I have a very creative mind. I love when someone who has been turned down by another lender comes to me and asks me how I can help them get funded... Sometimes they just need a little guidance to fix up some boo boos. Then like magic they get approved and that's why I love this job!
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
I love being outdoors. I play disc golf when I can, I run Town lake with my family every weekend, and we go on adventures in Colorado regularly.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
Well now.. I was a personal trainer for 12 years. I specialized in performance and athletic training for High School athletes. I think like a contrarian, I like to make my own road. My family is my number 1 and my everything.
