There is no typical borrower but, they all want to know how their credit score is determined and what effect that has on getting a mortgage.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
Listen, listen, listen. Every borrower is different, they all have different goals in the home buying process. Once I know what they want to do or how long they may be in the home, then we can look at the best case scenarios for them.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
Protect your Credit Scores by paying your debts on time. Set a budget and stick with it. Fund your retirement plan to the maximum as soon as you get a job. Some plans allow you to withdrawal for a down payment.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
That's the process is difficult, with planning it can be a breeze. That they are going to get ripped off (due to all the bad press). That they can't get approved if they have bumps on their credit.
What resources could you recommend that borrowers use to learn more about the mortgage process and how to ensure a successful home closing?
Check your credit regularly. Go to a HUD home buying seminar, meet with your Mortgage Professional and listen to the steps needed to buy a home.

Going to the closing and seeing the faces and excitement of my clients! That's the best part!
