Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
I work with a wide variety of clients from first time buyers to seasoned investors and repeat home buyers. I do both purchase and refinance loans. Most clients want to know how much money will I need to spend out of pocket and what is monthly payment going to look like?
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
We go through a series of budget questions so that we are looking at not only how much can you qualify for but what price range should you be shopping in based on your monthly budget goals and factor in how that will look with down payment funds you have access to or down payment assistance you may qualify for. I highly recommend turning in all requested items right away so we can have a very accurate approval upfront at the beginning of the process as some programs have annual income limits that we want to verify you meet the requirements on to ensure I am presenting all loan programs you may qualify for. We also review long term and short term goals as part of loan program strategy.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
1. That you need 20% down payment.
2. That you need perfect credit.
3. That the process is long or hard to go through.
What resources could you recommend that borrowers use to learn more about the mortgage process and how to ensure a successful home closing?
Your best resource is a seasoned loan officer that you feel comfortable asking questions to. My recommendations for a successful closing are provide items as soon as possible that are complete documents. Most frustration I see occurs because documents provided are partial or don't meet required guidelines due to missing pages or missing information. If you have questions ask - even if you think we talked about it or feel silly asking please ask. Please ask for it to be explained another way if its not clear to you on what we are covering. I am here to help and explain things in a manner that is clear and concise to you so you can make informed decisions.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
Getting to see my buyers get keys and that excitement of home ownership regardless of if its your first time or your tenth time getting those keys and closing is exciting every time. Knowing that I make a difference to my clients in one of their biggest financial purchases is very satisfying.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
I run agility with my Corgi - basically an obstacle course for dogs. I also enjoy maintaining a variety of outdoor flowering plants.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
