Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
Due to my lengthy career in mortgage I don’t have a typical customer base, but rather a common characteristic they seem to all share. Which would be information & education of the process and options available as well as a focus on pricing & service without any desire to compromise either.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
Gather information about what they are trying to achieve both in the short & long term.
Be flexible and creative to make the process fast & easy for them even when they have a complex situation.
Provide a thorough yet efficient explanation of what to expect start to finish.
Explain every detail of their mortgage.
Supply the specific options & information customized to their needs & goals.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
Down payments requirements, aggravation of the process & costs involved.
Borrowers may not need the 20% down that they assume, there are various competitive loan programs through Guaranteed Rate with a variety of down payment options.
While curve balls can be tossed during a transaction, it is the minority of the time they occur and when they do, the majority of them can be handled.
Costs definitely exist and can be significant, but excellent strategy can offset them tremendously if not completely.
What resources could you recommend that borrowers use to learn more about the mortgage process and how to ensure a successful home closing?
There are so many avenues for information available today. I think the most important aspects for someone to be successful in the process consist of 3 main topics:
Availability – opportunities are not limited to M-F 8-5.
Access to programs & pricing – have to be able to navigate unique situations as well as cookie cutters in the most competitive way.
Communication – done effectively & consistently alleviates anxiety & stress which makes the process exciting & enjoyable as it should be.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
The excitement of people winning! Being involved in a 1st home purchase, winning in competitive offer situations and being able to help families facilitate what is important to them.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
Spending time with my family sounds so typical, but it is truly what I love the most. Whether it’s a hike with my wife Kristin, surfing with my sons Jake & Zeke, watching my middle son Luke play baseball or all of us together at the beach, there’s nothing better out there for me.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
My interest in art, humor & music. I'm a big fan of surrealism, can't get enough of quick-witted humor and have a ridiculous range of music appreciation from country, metal, classic rock, reggae, ska, pop, punk, funk to horribly offensive rap.
