Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
My typical customer is the first time home buyer. They ask questions about costs involved to close the loan, how much they need to put down and how long until they can move into their home!
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
I talk to the customer and get to know them and their family so I can recommend the right product. Do they have a lot of money for the down payment, or would they prefer very little out of pocket. Do they make under the limit to qualify for home buyer grants? I ask lots of questions to get to the right product.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
The top three misconceptions are that it's hard to apply for a loan, you need a lot of money to put down and getting a pre-approval first isn't important.
What resources could you recommend that borrowers use to learn more about the mortgage process and how to ensure a successful home closing?
I recommend taking the home buyer counseling courses, and meet with a DPA associate. And giving them a high level overview of the home buying process starting with application all the way through closing.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
The best part of my job is at closing when they sign the last form, and we are waiting for the funding authorization. That's when they are most relaxed, and just ready to own their home. We can talk about plans they have for moving in, do they plan to make any changes right away, or is that down the road. And then they get their keys! Especially for the first time home buyer - best part of my day!
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
I love spending time with my family - my husband and I have five kids between us, and nine grandkids with a 10th on the way in September! I love Disney World and try to get down there at least once every year, taking one or two of the grandkids with me.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
Life is too short. I have recently started taking time for myself to walk while listening to music on my Pandora, look at nature, and appreciate life.
