How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I’ve been an originator for over 20 years. I was originally inspired to start this career because I was drawn to the mix of activities all day long, balancing time of computer against time meeting people and talking with them. It’s been the clients and all their different stories and situations that have kept it interesting all these years!
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
Ask, and ask again. It’s okay to admit you’re not sure where you are in the process and what you should do next…when you buy your first home you can’t be expected to be an expert, that’s why you have a team of experts to guide you through.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
I personally think client’s struggle with the paperwork required to document the loan, and how specific it needs to be to meet underwriting and investor criteria. The team and I will focus on not using “industry jargon” so we can request things that the clients are familiar with. If something isn’t quite right, we need to be available to not just reject it, but also explain why it isn’t right and what could work.
Are you active in any local associations or community groups, and at what level? What goals and/or success have you helped these groups achieve?
I’m the 2017 President of the local Mortgage Banker’s Association chapter (Mortgage Bankers of the Genesee Region). I’m also involved in several Project Tasks within the Women’s Council of Realtors local network. I like to get involved!
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
When we aren’t traveling from one of our three kids’ events or sports, in our off hours we enjoy skiing together as a family and “unplugging” from electronics and playing old fashioned board games. Send recommendations if your family has a favorite – my kids are sick of the Game of Life!
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I mentioned the board games, right?
I’ve also specialized in Renovation Loans for over 10 years and think it’s one of the best kept secrets in the mortgage industry. I have won awards for overall unit production and specifically how many Renovation loans I have closed in a calendar year at several different companies.
