Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
I have good mix of clients, from first time homebuyers, to move up buyers, to clients looking to refinance. They want to know they are getting the best loan product to meet their needs, and to know that our rates and fees are competitive with other lenders.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
I look at things like how long they plan on being in their home? Is this a starter home, or a move up home they will be in for the foreseeable future? How much do they have available for a down payment? How will their payment affect their budget, and will they be able to meet any other financial goals they may have.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
1- I need a 20% down payment - Some clients are surprised to find out you can purchase a home with a down payment much less than 20%. In some cases, a down payment is not required at all.
What resources could you recommend that borrowers use to learn more about the mortgage process and how to ensure a successful home closing?
The best resource is a local loan officer. A local lender is happy to meet with you, and answer any questions you may have. They can also give you guidance based on your individual situation, which is much better than the generic advise you will get by searching online.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
Working with first time homebuyers gives me the most satisfaction. I get to educate them on buying a home, and what steps they need to take. Its a great feeling to be able to help someone buy their first home and help them through the process.
