How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I have been in the mortgage business for over 20 years. I entered the mortgage industry after graduating from college with a degree in business. I always enjoyed financing and other business related classes. Also, my mother worked as a realtor for many years and led a successful career. I am a \"people person\" and enjoy helping people follow their dream of homeownership.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
I pride myself on listening to my clients. Every question is an important question. I give my clients options and run calculations at various loan amounts and loan terms. I walk my clients through the loan application process and guide them throughout the entire process.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
I would advise anyone looking to purchase property to obtain a "Dream Team". The team would consist of a highly intelligent, patient and detail oriented realtor, lender and attorney. Home buyers should reach out to their friends, co-workers, family, etc. for referrals. Referrals are the best way to find qualified people. I believe I am a well qualified fit in any "Dream Team". Besides having patience and knowledge, I have my own "Dream Team" staff. I have three amazing team members that facilitate the mortgage process from origination to processing to closing.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
It appears that the home mortgage process is more complex than it was years ago. The amount of documentation needed from the borrower has increased throughout the years. Guaranteed Rate continues to work diligently on streamlining the process. For example, a borrower can simply go to my website, complete an application, download their credit report and obtain a pre-approval letter. Thereafter, a formal application and disclosures can all be signed via secured email through docusign. Finally, any supporting documents we required can be uploaded via Transfersafe. On the other hand, if borrowers perfer that I take an application over the phone and they bring in or fax documents, that can be done as well. I am here to accommodate the clients and make the process run as smoothly as possible.
What can borrowers do to ensure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
Borrowers should pay great attention to the documentation their loan officer requires from them, i.e. tax returns, back statements, etc. The more complete the loan application, the smoother the entire mortgage process will be. A loan officer should do everything possible to make the mortgage process a pleasant experience.
Are you active in any local associations or community groups, and at what level? What goals and/or success have you helped these groups achieve?
I grew up on the Northside of Chicago, Ravenswood/Lincoln Square area to be exact. I love the City of Chicago and all its surrounding suburbs. I am a member of St. Paul of the Cross Church in Park Ridge. I am also a member of the Women's Council of Realtors. I actively volunteer my time at the local high school and park district.
Are you active in any fundraising organizations? What goals and/or success have you helped them achieve?
I actively fundraise for Camp Kesem. Camp Kesem is an organization that provides support and a week long summer camp for children with a family member suffering from cancer. My daughter is a lead counselor and proof that the campers as well as the counselors benefit tremendously from this experience. Besides my own contributions, my daughter and I are often spotted canning for donations at the local grocery store.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I enjoy spending time outside with my family and friends. Believe it or not, I actually like to fish. I get this from being raised with a father and two older brothers that would let me tag along with them on their fishing trips. I also enjoying going to the beach, yoga and bike riding along the Chicago lakefront. Finally, I can juggle. I wouldn't win any contests but still have fun with it.
