How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I have been in the mortgage business for over 25 years! I like to tell people I started when I was 15! At this point, I can say for certain that mortgage lending is in my blood! There are many ways to help people; this industry which allows people to find and create a home of their own is mine!
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
My best advice to my new or first time homeowners is to look at the mortgage process as an adventure and a learning experience! This may well be the largest investment most of us will ever make, whether it involves an FHA, VA, USDA, Conventional or Jumbo loan! When we work together as a team, the process is efficient and seamless. Keeping the lines of communication open, and working together if issues pop up will ensure a successful process and an on time closing!
What can borrowers do to ensure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
To insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process, it is important to take the time and submit a complete and accurate loan application. By working closely with your Loan Originator and Mortgage Consultant and providing a complete picture and supporting documents for your underwriter, you can take the guess work out of the process. The times have changed and the lending environment has swung back to a more conservative approach, so it is important to paint a picture that the Underwriters can follow - this makes their decision making process easier.
Summary of where you grew up: family, affiliations, college, high school, etc.
I grew up in Schenectady, New York - the home of GE, and graduated from Russell Sage College in Troy, NY. I worked in mortgage lending in NY for many years before moving to Raleigh, NC in 1996 - just one weekend before Hurricane Fran! I am very proud to call Cary, NC home! I am actively involved in the Raleigh Regional Association of Realtors, and also a member of NAPMW and the Triangle OD Network.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
