Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
Every customer is the same. They want communication from the start until the closing and the want to know the numbers involved in the transaction. Two way communication is vital during the process so I will explain the process and will be available to answer all questions.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
In the first conversation, we discuss what they are trying to accomplish and what is most comfortable for them. When we discuss their short and long term residence plans and their financial situation, we can help select the financing that works best for them!
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
I always recommend two things. Look for a property you would love to live in. Do not focus on future appreciation and profit since you cannot control it. I also recommend the buyer understand their own financial profile. Everyone should know their credit score and comfort level with funds needed for closing and monthly payment.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
One part of the loan process buyers find difficult is the documentation required. The mortgage industry currently is requiring a considerable amount of documentation. We communicate up front with the customer what will be required so the customer will be prepared.
What resources could you recommend that borrowers use to learn more about the mortgage process and how to ensure a successful home closing?
I strongly recommend we discuss accomplish as much as possible up front. We will discuss numbers, but we can also collect income and asset information and have the application reviewed by an underwriter. This provides the buyer with confidence to shop for the home they love!
Summary of where you grew up: family, affiliations, college, high school, etc.
I grew up in the Washington D.C. area where I attended Gonzaga High School. I then attended Marquette University in Milwaukee and moved to Chicago the summer after graduation.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
My two best days in the process are final approval and closing. It is so rewarding to call the buyer with the news of the final approval from underwriting and hear their response. Then, closing day is the peak of the process with a happy home buyer beginning a new chapter of the lives.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I like to travel even if it is a short, close trip and have even enjoyed being a tourist in my own city, Chicago.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
Along with being a mortgage professional, I enjoy the variety of entertainment, culture and dining in Chicago. There is always something to do with family or friends.
