How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I have been in the mortgage business since 2010. I had an extensive background in banking, and in sales, prior to this. I was convinced by a close friend, who is a real estate agent, that I would be very successful as a mortgage loan officer, and I have never looked back!
Tell us about a mortgage product that consumers may not be aware of?
Many people are not aware of the Fannie Mae Home Ready product, which is an excellent product for first-time homebuyers. Those who qualify (as there are maximum income limits) get preferred rates over other conventional buyers, and can put as little as 3% down, all of which can be gifted! This is a great fit for many first-time buyers who have student loan payments, or high monthly rent payments, and may not have been able to save the typical 5% down to buy a property.
What can borrowers do to ensure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
Borrowers can do several things to insure a smooth underwriting process. They include:
1) Make payments on time for all debt that they have
2) Avoid making large deposits into their bank account that can't be documented
3) Respond quickly to your loan officer and processor when documentation is requested. The quicker you can send it to them, the smoother the process.
4) Be up front and honest about everything having to do with income, credit, and assets when starting your application. The more knowledge I have of your situation, as a loan officer, the better I can find the right solution to fit your needs.
Are you active in any local associations or community groups, and at what level? What goals and/or success have you helped these groups achieve?
I am the treasurer for Hudson Youth Baseball/Softball, and am on the Board of Directors. I have been a director of both the minors, and majors, divisions recently. I have been head coach in 4 different divisions of HYBS as well. I have always had a passion for baseball, and it has been brought out by my two sons, who love to play the game. I have coached 2 championship victories, and two second place finishes, in my four seasons as a head coach. My biggest joy, though, so far, was watching my then-10 year old son hit his first home run over the fence last summer!
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I skipped 5th grade as a youngster. Most people don't believe me, but I skipped from 4th to 6th grade ... unfortunately, my wife will say I peaked as a child!
