Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
There is no such thing as a typical customer. Everyone enters the mortgage qualifying process differently - sometimes without much information, often with some discomfort, always with an important goal and a big life change in mind. It's my job, and my pleasure, to share my expertise and and strategic insights - it's competitive out there - in support of my clients' dreams. Everyone has a million questions about home financing, and I'm here to answer them all.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
I take a big picture approach when consulting with my clients - what financing strategy best suits your immediate needs and long-term goals? First, and throughout it all, I listen. Gauging risk tolerance is important - will you sleep better at night with a fixed rate loan, or are you comfortable with the more complicated ARM products that include potential future changes to your costs as a homeowner? Is this a property where you'd like to live for a long time? What monthly payments work for you? These are some of the key topics to consider when choosing the right financing option. My deep understanding of mortgage guidelines - the rules of the playing field - allows me to guide my clients through the zone of what's possible so they can ultimately land on the right spot, the best mortgage available.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
People are often surprised to learn how easily they qualify to purchase a home. I like passing on the happy news that, yes, you can do this. I think mortgages can look like that mountain you can't climb, but I believe that idea is a function of lack of information. Let me share what I know so you can see all the things you CAN do.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
I love de-mystifying mortgages - how they work, what they cost, what it takes to get approved - so that my clients feel comfortable making important decisions about a home purchase or refinance. I work tirelessly to create a deep trust in all of my business relationships so that I can share what I've learned in 25 years of helping people finance homes. The mortgage industry is dynamic, and there is a labyrinth of rules and regulations to wade through - I'm your personal guide through it all. With technology now a critical driver behind it all, it's exciting to be part of something that changes constantly but is always pointed in the same direction: a positive outcome for each client. At its core, ours is a people business, and I love people!
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
I'm a long-time East Bay resident and homeowner with a grown daughter whom I raised as a single parent. I'm a social person, a fan of collective exuberance, so yes, that's me at the ballpark chatting up the person sitting next to me, and me at the music club making new acquaintances. I love to read (history and fiction) and travel and try new recipes in the kitchen. I like to challenge myself, so two years ago I became a certified scuba diver (scary at first and now incredibly fun) and now I'm studying Spanish.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I love words! I've studied several languages and adore learning new vocabulary. Where did that word come from? How did that colloquial expression come into being? I'm happy reading a dictionary and an encyclopedia. I may be overloading my brain's RAM, but I'm having fun doing so. Word nut, that's me.
