Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
In the mortgage process, there is no typical client. Everyone is unique. Across the board, borrowers are different; their needs are different, and their wants are different. My job as a skilled originator is to meet those wants and needs, providing education and insight along the way to deliver a mortgage experience that exceeds expectations.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
My goal is to review the clients' needs. The Application gathers a solid blueprint of where the client sits as far as credit structure and programs available to them. I like to be sure how each program and structure fits the individual clients need. Our lives are moving and growing and the decisions we make for our home have to fit those needs. I gather the necessary information to assure that I am guiding them toward the best product for the overall needs.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
The top 3 misconceptions people have about the loan process are 1). You need 20% down payment in order to buy a home. This is completely false as we have loans that require as little as 3% down payment. 2). You have to have 800 credit scores. Although it is always important and helpful to have excellent credit scores, we do have loan options for individuals that have some credit blemishes. We can even educate clients on how to increase their credit scores in order to improve the interest rates available. And 3). It is difficult to get a mortgage. The mortgage industry has been going through many changes over the past years but, no, it is not difficult to get a loan. We ask the client to provide proof of income, debt and credit and we can render a decision very quickly.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
Having been on both sides of obtaining and offering a loan. I understand the worries a client can have toward the process. I love when a client can relax and know I am working in their best interest. This exchange of trust brings me the joy in my work.
