Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
My typical customers are definitely people who are newer to purchasing a home. What are my options? How much can I afford? What kind of paperwork do I need? These are all typical questions. To me nothing is more satisfying in this job, than helping navigate through buying their first home. Educating, helping, coaching, and guiding them through the process. LISTENING to their wants, needs, and short and long term goals and then matching them up with the right loan product to satisfy them and delivering a memorable customer experience in the meantime. I want my clients so happy and thrilled with their experience with me that they are talking to family, friends, and co-workers about myself and Guaranteed Rate.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
It's all about listening to customers. Asking the right questions to help uncover what is truly important to them in their purchase or refinance. After I've identified what the customers goals are it's education time and laying out their loan options for them. It's important to me to be as transparent and honest as possible, and communicate the pro's and con's (if any) of the loan options that are available. After that, the customer can comfortably make their decision and feel great about it.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
It's not fun, it's stressful, and everyone is trying to take my money.
A great team will make it fun and by having open lines of communication at all times and being transparent and honest will take out all of the un-needed stresses of the mortgage process. You'll know upfront, the costs for everything so that there are no surprises when it's closing time and you can make a confident, steady decision that you'll be happy with.
What resources could you recommend that borrowers use to learn more about the mortgage process and how to ensure a successful home closing?
First time home buyer seminars, trusted internet sites for reading up on lending options, or utilize a great lender!! Plain and simple. A great lender will take the time needed to explain each step of the process and thoroughly clear any questions there may be. From what you'll need to be prepared with for documents, costs of the loan, the time it takes for the loan from start to finish, a lender can be the resource people need.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
The process and the relationships! This is not an immediate satisfaction job. If I can take a person who has no clue where to start in the mortgage process and take them through all the steps and make it fun for them so that when we get to the closing table not only do they feel like they have had an amazing journey and a great experience but they're then part of my extended family as well and vice versa. This is an intimate business. You really get to know people as you're diving into not only their finances but goals, family, and other life subjects that are unique in buying a home.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
Being a dad to my son Leyton. I love to be outdoors boating, fishing, golfing, and hunting. I also love sports. I'm a die hard Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins fan.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
In my life I've never set an alarm to wake up. I have a weird built in clock that has never failed me. No matter if I'm waking up at 3am to go hunting, 5 am to go work out, or 7 am to get up for work I get up on time without an alarm.
