How long have you been in the mortgage business and what inspired you to get into it?
I have been in the mortgage industry for over 10 years. I was previously in the title and escrow industry for 8 years before making the switch to mortgages. I was looking for a change and friend of mine opened a mortgage company and offered me a job. Having a previous title background really helped ease my transition; mortgages just made sense and the rest is history. I have always enjoyed helping people and this job allows me to do that daily.
What advice would you give new or first time home buyers?
Every buyer should be comfortable with their payments including taxes and insurance. I would also recommend getting a home warranty so your covered for anything that comes up in the first year of home ownership. Buying a home is like buying a used car. You just never know if something need to be fixed by its appearance and it’s better to be prepared just in case you need it.
Tell us about a mortgage product that consumers may not be aware of?
Our 3-2-5 Program. It’s a loan program where the borrower puts down 3% down and we’ll provide a grant for up to 2% of the purchase price. There is no need to repay if the borrower moves or refinances. This is a great program for first time homebuyers that require minimal down payment as well as reduced mortgage insurance.
What part of the home loan process do customers find most difficult and how do you help them through it?
Borrowers sometimes feel that the paperwork required to obtain a loan can be a bit overwhelming. To alleviate some of the pressure, I ask for as much as I possibly can up-front and explain the reasoning for why we need so much documentation. This allows the loan process to move smoothly as we move towards our closing date.
What can borrowers do to insure a smooth mortgage underwriting process?
Provide all the requested documentation as soon as possible. The mortgage process has many steps and, any delays providing necessary documents slows the whole process down.
Summary of where you grew up: family, affiliations, college, high school, etc.
I was born and raised in San Diego, CA and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. Where else can you go snowboarding in the morning and surfing in the afternoon on the same day?
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
I really enjoy helping people reach their financial goals whether it be through buying a home or refinancing to save money or do home improvements. I have a personal goal to provide the best program and customer service for each individual client.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my 2 daughters, cheering on my youngest who dances and my oldest who is a varsity cheerleader at Granite Hills HS. I also love going to concerts and spending time outdoors which includes going to the beach, kayaking, snowboarding, and hiking.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I share my birthday with my oldest daughter and wouldn’t have it any other way.
