Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
I do not really have typical customers and all customers are absolute priority to me. I am fortunate to have many referrals from previous clients and I have had a fair amount of loans coming from the cycling community because I have been involved with them for over a decade but also young professionals, mid-career clients, local and regional business owners.
Main question that comes up is as to whether they would qualify for a loan and if so what their home loan limit would be. Another question that is asked often is about rates, I am fortunate to work for a company that offers very competitive rates to our customers.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
There is no one size fits all home loan, depending on the client's specific circumstances, I guide my clients and tell them the pros and cons of various loan options and make a suggestion based on all the facts that I gather. The most important step is to have great listening skills. When clients schedule a call with me, I make sure I listen to their entire story. Concretely for the home loan, their financial situation is of utmost relevance but also if they are ready to be responsive to requests for information.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
- Needing a large down payment to qualify.
- Pre-qualification is the same as pre-approval.
- You need perfect credit to buy a home.
What resources could you recommend that borrowers use to learn more about the mortgage process and how to ensure a successful home closing?
In my opinion the greatest resource for clients is their loan officer and his/her team that is responsive, has excellent communication skills and a proven track record of successfully managing loans. Going through the mortgage application, processing and approval processes can be overwhelming. It is indeed a process that requires a close connection between the applicants and loan officer team. All involved parties, including the agents in many cases need to be available and work as a team towards their mutual goal "successful closing".
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
Successful relationships whether socially or in business are about trust, transparency and excellent communication. Throughout my career, I have been known for helping clients and bringing people together and make a name for myself as a trusted adviser. My excellent reviews prove it. To me being professionally successful means having a sense of accomplishment at the end of each day and socially it means having a great circle of friends who support each other. I believe also in continuous improvement and always want to learn new things.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
The most I enjoy is to spend time with my family and my 16 year old daughter Mia. However, I am also a big sports fan. Played competitive soccer in Germany and varsity soccer in the US. Currently, I am participating in master's level bicycle races.
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I teach spin classes at a local gym in Austin, TX for fun. In all the seriousness of dealing with numbers and hard earned money, I try to find humor in almost everything.
