Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
The type of clients I normally work with is very broad. I work with first time home-buyers, Veterans, investors, families looking to upgrade to a larger home to accommodate their growing family and retirees looking for their forever home. The typical questions I am asked are what programs are available for my situation, what do I qualify for and what can I expect my payment to be. All of these questions I answer as it is my role to educate and guide clients through this process.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
The top 3 misconceptions I hear about the mortgage process are: 20% down payments are required, a 700+ credit score is needed and it takes too long to get preapproved. In many cases you can put as little as 3% down. If you are a Veteran eligible for a VA loan then normally no down payment is required. There are also down payment assistance programs to assist you. While a high credit score is desired it is not required. Together we can find the right product to fit your specific situation. Getting pre-approved should be a thorough process to ensure there are no surprises in underwriting but that does not mean the process cannot be quick. My goal is to get your preapproved in a timely fashion and for you to feel confident in your preapproval.
What resources could you recommend that borrowers use to learn more about the mortgage process and how to ensure a successful home closing?
The greatest resource for information about the mortgage process is a good experienced loan officer. I am here to answer any questions my clients have, set proper expectations for the mortgage process and maintain clear communication throughout. To ensure a successful home closing I would implore clients to communicate with your loan officer, respond quickly to requests for information and ask for clarification on anything you do not fully understand. My clients and I are a team. To be successful all members of the team have to work together so we can share in the sweet victory which is putting keys to a new home in your hands.
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
The greatest satisfaction for me is seeing the excitement in my clients eyes when they close on their loan and become home owners. I know this can be a stressful process but it should also be a fun and exciting process. You are achieving the dream of home ownership!
