Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
My typical customer is a first-time homebuyer that is looking for guidance and education throughout the entire process. In addition, I work with home buyers that are selling their first home and upgrading to a bigger home due to life-changing experiences.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
The first time I sit down with any client, I always make sure that regardless of what we discuss, they leave my office with a crystal-clear example of their potential monthly payment & closing costs, and I break down every aspect of their payment to help guide them in their search. A lot of people do not factor in the fees and extra costs of purchasing a home, so making sure they understand that in the beginning of their search is essential.
The most important thing for me is to find out their short term and long-term goals. Knowing this helps me to better educate them on the products available to suit their needs and financial goals.
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
It never fails! The most common misconceptions that people make about the home buying process is that they think they HAVE to put down 20%, that they need to have a 700+ FICO score, or that you have to be at your job for at least 2 years. ALL of which are not true! There are countless programs available for every financial situation!
What resources could you recommend that borrowers use to learn more about the mortgage process and how to ensure a successful home closing?
I highly recommend that people get educated early. Learn about credit, saving for your down payment, or even taking first time home buyers classes. Understanding things early on helps give you a clear picture of your timeline and when you can plan to make a purchase, and makes the entire process just that much more seamless!
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
The best part of my job by far is the day of the closing! So much work goes into every single file, and there is nothing more rewarding at the end of it all than seeing a smile spread across my client’s face. Buying a home is a major part of people’s lives and getting to experience that moment with them is extremely special!
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
Every spare moment I get, I spend with my amazing wife, Donna! While we love to work out together all the time, we are true professionals at the “Netflix & A pint of ice cream thing”!
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
Not a lot of people can say that they are undefeated against the greatest basketball player of all time. I was lucky enough to play in a scrimmage against Michael Jordan himself. And let’s just say, I gave him a run for his money! But, I can officially say that I have never lost to MJ! By far the coolest thing I have ever done!
