Who is your typical customer and what questions do they typically have?
My customer base is varied. Many of my repeat customer are not high net worth clients with income beyond or in place of w-2, however i also still work with first time home buyers of all income types. I love to be able to help folks into a home, housing is known to be a stabilizing and empowering part of peoples lives. delighted to be able to help folks in the quest for a home.
What specific steps do you use to help your customers find the best home loan for them?
I start by listening. Everyone i speak with has a story and a vantage point that if i can understand, i can select additional information to share. The customer that admitts to being a novice is my favorite, i will start our conversation by asking what people think about when they think of buying a home and financing that home? what are the most important factors: proximity of home to work, monthly expense, expansive land, somewhere they can live for a short or long time, something that will grow with their family. Then i move to talking about how they think about their earning potential or trajectory? Plans for the next five years, life and earnings?
What are the top 3 misconceptions people have about the home loan process?
It is all about rate, mortgage services are a commodity
Many people believe mortgage bankers are like tellers, while a good mortgage banker is like a professional wealth manager and advisor. Testimonials help with this.
Many people believe they must have at least a 20% down payment
What resources could you recommend that borrowers use to learn more about the mortgage process and how to ensure a successful home closing?
I encourage customers to use me as a resource as questions arise and i can point them to tools to address their specific concerns. I provide an overview to begin the process and maintain contact. My team is also a resource, when in doubt, ask us! I am cautious about sending folks to the open market for info, my experience is that i then spend time helping them overcome myths. I would hope that by coming to me and my web page, customers will have all the information they need
What provides you with the most satisfaction in your job as a Loan Officer?
A customer whose expectations have been met and who is able to enjoy the process of making an investment in a home and their future. Exceeding expectations is awesome, not meeting expectations robs customers of the delight that can be experienced in the process.
What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time when you are not helping people with their home loans?
I have a beautiful and precocious nine, almost ten year old son name Samuel. He was a true gift to me later in life and i love to be with him, playing sports (soccer is his fave now), enjoying museums (science and history) and extended family. We live in downtown Boston and enjoy the energy of our city and the ever changing landscape of New England. I am also active in his private school community and parent's association. I am back at my golf game after nearly a ten year leave and working on getting handicap back down!
Tell us something that makes you unique or something wacky, yet interesting about you?
I talk to everyone! This drives my son crazy and often makes even simple tasks take a little bit longer, but i enjoy people and making them feel good! I am also a happy person, intense, but happy and this gift is cherished by and valuable to me. I was very lucky to have been born into my life, I see folks around me that have not been so lucky and I love to share a bit of what I have with them, even if it is a smile and greeting.
